Ida Armstrong Whitehouse

Ida Armstrong Whitehouse with Family
(Ida is top right)

Ida is no stranger to the Berwick Camp experience although she has not yet taken part in the Morningside Devotions. Ida says that being the facilitator will give her the motivation and opportunity to get up early. (Ida’s story- “Have you heard the story of the man who didn’t want to go to church and asked his wife why he had to go. She replied, ‘It is what God would want and you need to go because you are the preacher.’”) Ida will be at Morningside because she feels that God would want her there and also because she has the privilege of leading it.

Ida has loved coming to Berwick Camp since she was 5 years old and with a brief hiatus has been coming for the last 50+ years. She has preached, helped with VBS, coordinated children’s craft, lead in communion services, prayed and helped out in the canteen during her years here. She especially liked helping at Wendell’s canteen last year and going on the photo shoot while at the camp.

Ida has been in ministry for 35 years and was among the first ten Baptist women ordained in Canada. In 1998 she earned her Doctor of Ministry Degree from Golden Gate Theological Seminary, San Francisco. Her thesis was “Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Worship Preferences”. Ida has lectured at Acadia University and Divinity School, Atlantic School of Theology and taught CPE units in general and psychiatric hospitals. Ida was on the National Board of Human Care for the Cancer Society, has been an R.C.M.P. Chaplain for 10 years and is currently a Vice President for Canadian Baptist Ministries.

Ida enjoys travelling (missions in Bolivia, Czech Republic, India, Nepal, Indonesia), photography, gardening, meeting people and helping people grow in their faith journey.

Ida and her husband Gregg have been married for 35 years and enjoy their 2 adult daughters, Meaghan (25) and Maia (23).

“I look forward to the early morning celebration and quiet time with God through Berwick Morningside from Mon. to Fri. @ 7:30-8:00 am in the old pavilion. I hope you can join us there rain or shine. My 5 devotionals will center on the 'I am...' In the Old testament, God is referred to as 'The I Am' and Jesus follows up with word pictures to help describe his relationship with us. The devotionals will include a time of singing, led by Wendy Fraser and a time of reflection which I will lead.”
